TENTED ADVENTURES

Moods of Mana - 7 days/6 nights

3 nights Mcheni Mobile Tented Camp, Mana Pools National Park
3 nights Chitake Springs Mobile Camp, Mana Pools National Park

Mana is a Bantu word meaning four and the National Park gets its name from the old oxbows of the river meander a few kilometres inland of the Zambezi that have now turned into pools, holding water almost all year round as a result attracting large concentrations wildlife from the dry interior. This journey is designed to award guests the opportunity to experience the extremes of Mana Pools National Park, a world heritage site and one of the most experience rewarding parks in Africa. Follow an elephant bull for a full day and experience how he interacts with you, other wildlife around and the hippos and crocodiles when he goes down to the river to quench his thirst. Mana Pools national park boasts some of the most adventurous walking in Africa. This safari works perfectly in combination with other areas of Zambia or Botswana.

Journey in Detail

Guests arrive into Mana Pools where they are met by their guide and taken by road or on foot to the 1st night camp, Mcheni a spot that commands magnificent views of the Zambezi River.

Mcheni Mobile Tented Camp, Mana Pools National Park - 3 nights
The Mcheni area of Mana Pools is known for its old and ever confident but friendly elephant bulls that wander in search of the nutritious acacia pods in the dry months. The day begins by listening to the sounds of the night from the safety of your tent. It can then be executed on foot, by Canadian canoe or by vehicle to the nearby Mana Pools. On foot encounters with large herds of antelope, buffalo, lion and wild dog can be expected on this safari.

Chitake Springs Mobile Camp, Mana Pools National Park - 3 nights
The second part of the trip takes guests inland to the Chitake springs, which in the dry season is the only water for about 40 km. A resident pride of lion, picks out its prey from the variety of wildlife that have no choice but to come and quench their thirst, after a long and tiring walk. A hike to the Zambezi escarpment on an elephant path will give a unique experience and a breathtaking view of the Zambezi valley where the Zambezi River has been meandering for the last few thousand years. On the last day guests will take a morning drive through the Jesse bush back towards the river and then transfer by light aircraft for onward arrangements. Depending on wildlife movements on this safari, this itinerary can be changed to spend more time in a place with an unexpected movement of wildlife.

What previous guests think about the Mana Pools safari?
"What can I say? It's a safari that has everything, great upper (canoeing) and lower(walking) body workouts, adrenalin filled days, getting close to elephants, hippos and even lions, nights surrounded by the sounds of the African bush outside our tent. We are grateful to the staff that made sure we were well fed and taken care of, which is a rather impressive feat in the middle of the bush. Our guide will always be remembered as our wild man of Mana Pools fearless and absolutely fun. This has been unforgettable, thank you..."
