Namibian Landscape Adventure
13 days/ 12 nights
2 nights Kulala Wilderness Camp
2 nights Hansa Hotel, Swakopmund
1 night Damaraland Camp
2 nights Palmwag Rhino Camp
2 nights Ongava Tented Camp, Etosha
3 nights Skeleton Coast Camp
This journey traverses the Eastern region of Namibia where the
higher concentrations of wildlife are. The main focus of the journey
being the landscape characterised by rugged mountain formations,
the endlessly stunning scenery of the roaring dunes in the Namib
and then the fragile ecosystem of the Skeleton Coast topped with
the tradition of the desert dwelling Himba tribe, a culture fading
into the past. Driving, cycling and flying this vast wilderness
allows guests to experience and feel the life of the desert from
different perspectives. With the sheer openness and crystal clear
night skies, Namibia has some of the most superb stargazing in “Dark
Africa”.
Journey in Detail
Day 1 & 2. After meeting your guide in Windhoek we set of on
a scenic drive to Kulala Wilderness
Camp in the Sossusvlei area
of the Namib. Activities in this area include visits to some of
the highest accessible dunes in the world. Test your fitness levels
by attempting “Big Daddy” and a truly amazing scene
looking down onto the famous Dead vlei will await you.
Day 3 & 4 Hansa
Hotel, Swakopund is a traditional spot in this
former German colony. A lagoon trip at Walvis Bay by motorboat
to see the seals, an extension to Sandwich harbour, which is an
area rich in birdlife and an Atlantic seafood lunch, will keep
you entertained as you safari in a slightly unique manner.
Day 5. Transfer by road to Damaraland
Camp, which is an area famous
for it’s concentration of desert, adapted elephants. Oryx,
kudu, springbok and the occasional lion and cheetah coming through
are on the list of wildlife to be seen in this area. This area
has one of Africa’s most successful conservation efforts
involving the local Torra community of the Damara tribe who meeting
will be a privilege. Soaring peeks and ancient valley’s in
contrast with stark plains constitute the landscape in this area.
Day 6 & 7 A “short drive” through the northern
reaches of the Damara area will lead us to Palmwag
Rhino Camp.
Run in conjunction with the Save the Rhino Trust this will give
guests a first hand experience of the ecology and conservation
efforts in Southern Africa. Wildlife highlight’s include
the rare, desert adapted black rhino which can be tracked on foot,
desert adapted elephants, giraffe, ostrich and both spotted and
brown hyena, leopard, cheetah and lion to represent the resident
predators.
Day 8 & 9. After a few days of breathtaking scenery it’s
time to spend some time with great concentrations of desert adapted
wildlife in the Etosha area. The scene that comes to mind is sitting
at a waterhole and watching “black and white” elephants,
large herds of the majestic gemsbok, black and white rhino, zebra,
hartebeest, springbok and quite often a few predators waiting opportunistically
with you. Night drives and after dark pan sit are very productive
in this area as the wildlife trickles in for a drink at all times
of day and night.
Day 10,11&12 This great journey is set to climax at Skeleton
Coast National Park, the most fragile ecosystem south of the Sahara.
Freshwater springs and unique river systems sustain wildlife in
this area, which includes black faced springbok, gemsbok, Hartmann’s
mountain zebra, elephant, cheetah and the occasional lion seen
strolling along the beach. Seal colonies and shipwrecks are definitely
worth the drive through the soaring sand dunes and towering canyons.
A visit to a local Himba village will leave one astonished as to
how this ancient tribe can survive with very little water, development
and nearly just as little problems.
Day 13 Happily and sadly on this day we round up the trip with
a flight rich in scenery to Windhoek for onward arrangements.
