Tipping
is an issue that often raises questions but we firmly believe
is at the sole discretion of the guest and is not compulsory.
Tipping should only be done only if you feel the staff has
offered good service. Poor service = no tip.
If you wish to tip, then we recommend the following as a guideline.
- All camp staff should be tipped communally, with the exception of the guides.
For this we advise using the tip box or handing over to the camp staff collectively
before you depart an amount of about US$3-00 or more per guest per day.
- For mokoro paddlers about US$3-00 per guest per day.
- Should you wish to leave something for your camp guide, we suggest US$5-00
or more per person per day.
- If you get good service at one of the city restaurants about 5-10% of the meal
account is customary
- It is strongly suggested you tip once only at the end of your stay.
Generally only the large hotels will accept credit cards and even then it is
recommended that guests use credit cards for emergencies only. The countries
that you will travel through all have different currencies but tourists are expected
to pay in United States Dollars. For gratuities, curio shopping and premier alcoholic
beverages we recommend guests travel with some money in cash in varied denominations
and some in travelers cheques as visits to the ATM machine are near impossible
in these remote destinations.
