Alfred Ngwarai
Alfred had the nature bug in him from a young age, gained through
living in and around different national parks across Zimbabwe where
his father was the Chief Warden. When an opportunity arose in 1994,
he started his guiding apprenticeship in Hwange National Park in
western Zimbabwe and as a trainee, worked in 8 different lodges,
where he was engaged into an intensive training course focused on
approaching potentially dangerous game on foot, guest relations,
flora and fauna studies and first aid.
In 1996 Alfred went up to Kariba with Safari Sun where he spent his time between
Fothergill Island, Katete and Bumi hills. His first taste of the south eastern
lowveld of Zimbabwe was on assignment in 1997 to the Gona re Zhou Park, based
at Mahenye Island. Here the highlight was bird watching and walks in the untamed
park.
In 1998 he moved on to Malilangwe Trust, adjacent to the gigantic Gona-re- Zhou
National Park where the game activities for the guests ranged from game drives,
walks, canoeing, tiger, bass and fly fishing, rock art, Black and White rhino
tracking, conservation related kids educational trips, sustainable rural environmental
management as well as an intensive in-house conservation project that focused
primarily on both rhinos, elephant, lion, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, sable
and roan. After 4 years in this area his role evolved into that of the head guide
for another 6 years, in charge of guiding activities, guest liaison, and guide
training issues.
While at Malilangwe Alfred took time to travel to and work in other lodges in
the famous Sabi Sands and Lebombo areas of the Kruger National Park and in the
Grumeti Reserves of Tanzania. This was all in preparation for Alfred to be able
to deliver bespoke safaris in both Southern and East Africa. Alfred gets his
inspiration from bringing to reality, lifetime dreams of African experiences
to his guests. Alfred is married and has been blessed with 2 young and naughty
adventurers that also have a passion for nature and speaks five African languages
Shona, Ndebele, Zulu, Shangaan and Swahili.
