Having
been in the safari industry for 10 years as a professional guide
and camp manager Humphrey Gumpo and his
partner Constance
Lahey, a tourism
graduate and travel consultant of many years formed Tailormade Safaris.
During their many adventures they met up with friends with an unmistakable
passion for remote Africa. As the relationship grew they travelled
and spent time together and one day while on a photographic safari
in an effort to capture awe inspiring photographs and experience
the wild, they realised they had something in common: the need to
share their passion for wild and remote Africa with discerning travellers
looking for unique adventure and photographic opportunities. Drawing
on the business and travel experience of these Swiss based friends
who have become advisors to their company, both financial and with
photographic safari arrangements, Humphrey and Constance have created
the Tailormade Safaris team that work with a great focus on a personal
and exclusive experience, to deliver unique and enjoyable journeys
for all their guests.
A safari holiday is often a once in a lifetime experience and every
traveller having different needs, backgrounds and sources of excitement,
we at Tailormade Safaris endeavour to be as flexible as the tough
African conditions allow. Over the years we have developed a wide
network of contacts and relationships with well renowned operators
and travel agents in the industry and will facilitate the smooth
handling of your booking, any special requests you may have and your
safari as a whole.
When we choose our destinations we try as much as possible to venture
into remote areas and to stay in camps designed
for small groups hence offering an exclusive and intimate African
experience. Sound
environmental and nature conservation policies, community involvement
and fair trade are also very important factors when we choose the
camps to which we take our guests. We believe by delivering wildlife
experiences on the African continent, like no other in the world,
we are creating a brighter future for Africa, her people and her
wildlife.
Humphrey Gumpo has specialised in walking, canoeing and private guided
safaris for renowned operators mainly in Botswana, South Africa,
Zambia and Zimbabwe. He has also guided small groups through Namibia
and has a vast knowledge of the subcontinent as a whole. Firmly believing
that Southern Africa is a land of many countries but one people,
bound together by similar culture and surroundings Humphrey considers
himself African more than he is Zimbabwean. Humphrey is most renowned
for his canoe and walking trails on the Mana Pools shoreline of the
Zambezi River where he spent five years of his career and is often
referred to as the guide with webbed feet. Spending most of his time
on foot amongst herds of elephants, buffalo and antelope, he has
gained a unique experience in interaction in wildlife that he passionately
shares with his guests on safari. With his experience and an unmistakable
passion for photography Humphrey also leads most of our specialist
safaris.
Constance Lahey heads up the reservations team ensuring that all
bookings are handled in a smooth and timeous manner and guests travel
to the right areas for their interests. Being French, Constance travels
into various safari camps not only to do regular checks that will
keep her up to date with the safari industry and new properties but
also choosing to lead small groups and families with which she shares
a language in common. With her experience she is able to translate
the experience creating great excitement for our guests
